Grovemont Getaway
Designing a logo and brand for a rental property outside of Asheville, NC
Do you remember when AirBnB first launched? The product used to be individual people renting out rooms in their homes. Fast forward a decade, and the experience has nearly merged into that of staying in a hotel, short-term management companies now offering a similar impersonal service.
Enter Grovemont Getaway, a historic home outside of Asheville, NC. The owners personally manage the booking, cleaning, and overall experience. Thoughtful details like offering a travel crib and high chair, a bottle of wine and a basket of snacks, and a real-live human to ask questions of before and during your booking.
I was tapped on the shoulder by the owner to create their logo, branding, and visitor guide to complement their high-touch, historical experience.
The Logo

The owners had already decided on the property name. The home is located in the Grovemont area of Swannanoa, and the initials GG carry personal significance. So I definitely wanted to highlight the double Gs. I started by digitially sketching out a few concepts, playing with fonts and colors. I then presented these to the client to pick the finalist.

The final logo includes the double-Gs nestled together, and stands well both with and without the house background.

The logo is printed on both the house guide as well as the visitor log.

The second part of the project was to write up the visitor guide. Focused on the user of a fresh traveler to the home, I incorporated all of the basic information, like the WiFi login, and more nuanced information, like the bedroom door that will unstick if you pull up on the 100-year-old doorknob. The manual is written in a conversational, friendly tone with a bit of humor. Here is a copy of the book:
